If you are unfamiliar with the career of American sportswear designer, Bonnie Cashin, you must google her and learn more about her amazing career. She was truly a design pioneer and her independent spirit is reflected in her unique take on form plus function.
Her use of industrial hardware mixed with luxe yet everyday wearable fabrics was truly innovative.
This amazing green leather coat has been dated 1970 by the Bonnie Cashin Foundation. (They have great website, by the way.) It is typical of Cashin's approach to design, though not a design we see often when trawling for Cashin coats. Center-stage at the empire waist, there's a large brass buckle that closes her coat. It's like the kind of hardware found on Coach leather goods. (By the way, Cashin is the designer whose brass toggles literally put Coach on the map.) This coat is full-length, all leather, and lined in a luxurious short faux-fur pile. It closes with concealed snaps. To see the snaps and the lining, take a look at the photos on the right.

Condition:
EXCELLENT. This coat is in NEAR PERFECT condition. It looks like it was barely worn. It is clean and free of stains or odors. The lining is clean and free of holes or issues. Snaps work perfectly, brass buckle is in working order and free of tarnish. The flaws I note are minor--the edge of each cuff shows an incredibly small amount of wear. It's as if it rubbed gently on something which would be typical for the underside of a cuff. The upper collar has three pin prick holes in it.
